ilike A Pretty Tan

via
Lets cut to the chase. We all know that getting too much of anything can hurt you, and unfortunately, that includes the sun. And while staying out in the sun for too long can leave you looking like a lobster, and even worse, can lead to skin cancer- something has to be said for an extra jolt of vitamin D and the ego boost that comes with looking mighty fine with freshly sun kissed skin. However, there are precautions you can and should take to protect yourself as much as possible while safely soaking up some rays.

ilike (organic skin care made fresh in Hungary & featured at yours truly, Firefly Facials) makes a fabulous Tomato Suntan Lotion that not only protects your skin from burning, but creates a healthy glow while doing it!

While you are busy enjoy the sun and getting gorgeous, this super product is hard at work. Not only does it do the obvious, it's helping to fight off free radicals, absorbing harmful sun rays, and saving you from what could cause premature signs of aging (*GASP*)! So get out there and enjoy the summer days, whether you are going to the beach or simply getting outside for a free community yoga class, make sure you are getting the most out of your sun exposure!

*For more information or to order this product please contact Firefly Facials at: Firefly.Facials@gmail.com

What could be #morewinningthanwinning?

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals was ----------> THE. BEST. SHOW. EVER. 'nuff said.

Have you ever had a desire to live in the 60's? Ya know peace, love and rock & roll? Well, for those of us that feel we were born a few decades too late heres our opportunity. From Grace dancing around on stage like some sort of hippy fairy-goddess, to the fog and light show - it was like watching one giant (dare I say it), orgasm of musical talent!

In addition to being completely bitchin' this band is GORGEOUS. I have never seen so much beautiful, long flowing hair flipping around in one place (and no I am not just referring to Grace, this entire band was blessed with fantastic hair). Hell, I'm not from Paris but I am going to go ahead and say "Ooh La La"!

I feel I should also mention that Grace has a set of pipes on her like you would not believe. Girlfriend completely brought the house down with that sex-kitten raspy voice of hers. At one point she was singing solo and it literally took me half the song to realize that her bad was not accompanying her. She is just that good.

A giant thanks to those that joined us! What a fantastic time! Can we go back and do it all over again please?

*Don't forget to bring your ticket stub in this week for a complimentary enzyme up-grade with your facial.

-Peace, Love & Grace Potter Flower Power!

Cinematic Magic!

Tonight I have some magical clips for you to feast your eyes on! 1st up is an all time clip that was featured on Family Guy last night. They referred to this video as "the gayest video of all time". If by "gay" they mean totally awesome I'm in! I've already started learning Mick Jagger's part so my sister and I can have a dance off. They just don't make music like they use to. *Sigh*

Next up is The Old Spice ad vrs the New Edge Shave Gel ad. I say that Old Spice should take the copy-cat as a form of flattery. Nothing beats the original, but please by all means you be the judge. BTW did I mention I have two tickets to that thing you love?

PS: Me selecting the poor quality rip-off video was not in any way to sway your decision.

Goal Setting

Obtaining balance is something that we all strive for. We are being propelled forward each day we are on this earth. The question can be asked whether or not we are living each day to our full potential. Every day is a new opportunity to reinvent, recreate and give back. In the spirit of self discovery I would like to encourage you to create goals for yourself and then post them publicly (whether that be in the form of a comment on this blog, your personal blog, a facebook account or simply typed out and displayed on your fireplace mantle).

The reason for posting your goals publicly is to speak to the universe, put it out there. By posting your goals publicly you are also playing into the law of attraction.  The thing you want to make sure you do when you set your goals is to give yourself a due date. If there is not a due date then you do not have to hold yourself accountable. In life being accountable to yourself is the most import responsibility of all.

In addition to goal setting it is helpful to acknowledge these 3 things:

  • I am best in the world at...
  • I can make money by...
  • My biggest passion is...

As well as your core values. Mine are:

  1. Passion
  2. Creativity
  3. Courage

That being said, without any further a du here is my call to the universe:

I am best in the world at...
being passionate about love & life. I effectively communicate and encourage others to realize their potential and achieve their dreams.

I can make money by...
soothing the mind, body and soul while boosting self esteem.

My biggest passion is...
my personal relationships. Life is much more beautiful when shared with those you love.

Spring Has Sprung!

Spring has sprung! stalled...?

OK, Mother Nature what gives? One day you teases us by raising the temps into the low 70's only to call for snow 3 days later. Monday you gave us the wonderful gift of 80 degrees, promptly followed by hurricane force wind and rain.

Personally I've decided I am ready. Spring is here, it has sprung! I have an overwhelming desire to suck back sangria's while listening to Katy Perry's "California Gurls" (yes,  it has been brought to my attention that for the amount of amazing music I listen to, there is also a very bad side of me that cannot help the impromptu dance parties that bad teenage pop brings).

You say snow? I say sundress! You say showers? I say brings May flowers! The real fun-in-the-sun will have to wait. In the meantime prepare your skin for that flawless sun-kissed, summer glow! Come take a stand and tell Mother Nature that we don't need her to put our best face forward.

Start an all natural fruit enzyme peel series today & finish just in time for summer! Your sun-kissed glow will have never looked so good!

*Remember, although a healthy does of vitamin D is good - always protect & nourish before, during and after sun exposure. Love your skin and your skin will love you back!

Rainy Day Recipe

Baby its cold outside! Warm up with this yummy soup-made-easy by Mark Bittman! Happy eating!

Udon Noodle and Miso Soup with Shiitake Mushrooms

Makes 4 servings
Time: About 30 minutes
Udon noodles are the long, thick, now-familiar Japanese wheat noodle that can be treated pretty much like Italian pasta. Make this soup with any stock-dashi, meat, poultry, seafood, or vegetable.
8 ounces dried, frozen, or fresh udon noodles
11/2 quarts dashi or water
1/3 cup any miso
2 cups thinly sliced shiitake mushrooms or a handful dried
1/2 cup chopped scallion
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil and salt it. Add the udon and cook it until it's just about done-there should still be a light chew to it-about 5 minutes. Drain it and rinse in cold water until cool; set aside. (If you're cooking the pasta in advance by more than 30 minutes, hold the pasta in a bowl of cold water or drizzle or toss with a couple tablespoons neutral oil.) If you're using dried mushrooms, pour some of the boiling noodle water over them to cover; soak until soft, about 30 minutes.

2. Heat the dashi in a large, deep pot over medium heat until bubbles rise from the sides. Put the miso in a bowl, add a cup or so of the hot dashi, and whisk until smooth. Pour the miso mixture into the rest of the dashi and mix.

3. Slice the reconstituted mushrooms, if you're using them; strain their soaking liquid and add it to the dashi. Add the mushrooms to the dashi and cook gently (do not boil) for about 5 minutes. Add the udon and heat though, garnish with the scallion, and serve.

Udon Noodle and Mixed Seafood Soup.
Add 1 pound mixed peeled shrimp, chopped small squid, and scallops; simmer gently (do not boil) in the dashi-miso broth until the shrimp is pink, about 5 minutes.

Soba or Somen Noodle Soup.
In the main recipe of any of the variations, use dried or fresh soba or somen noodles instead of the udon; they won't take quite as long to cook, just 5 minutes or so.

Guilty Pleasures Playlist:

Today is one of those days, where you just need that extra pep in your step! The weather is grey, cold and uneventful. I personally found myself in need of a little extra go-go juice this morning. I remembered a blog post that I read about a week ago on Lululemon and decided to give the "Guilty Pleasures Playlist" a go. I'm not going to lie, this music sucks. In fact, it is so horrible I am a little bit embarrassed that I am actually about to share it with you. Never-the-less, here I go (diving head first into social suicide). Let the mocking begin:

Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car” – Billy OceanThe King of the Caribbean wants to take you on a joyride to Love Town. Just let it happen.
How Bizarre” – OMCIt’s not a good sign when a brand new song is already generic enough to be played in your dentist’s office.
Jenny From The Block” – Jennifer LopezThey just don’t make music like this anymore. Maybe because it shouldn’t have been made in the first place.
Raise A Little Hell” – TrooperHesher alert! If this is on your iPod, might I remind you: it isn’t appropriate to drink light beer in your water bottle.
Touch It” – MonifahThe person who should feel shameful is Monifah herself – homegirl borrowed my one-armed red pleather mini dress & choker twelve years ago and STILL hasn’t given it back.
TiK ToK” – Ke$haI really want to not like this song. I have tried SO HARD. Anyone have any tips for Ke$ha-itis?
Changes” – 2pacOkay, so Tupac is rad. But Tupac sampling BRUCE HORNSBY? Um…um. That’s all I have.
Don’t Cry For Me Argentina (Remix)” – MadonnaThis song is shameful for a few reasons. First of all, it sounds like they scrounged the beat out of the Gipsy King’s trash can. Second of all, the video shows Madonna….acting. And we all know how good that is.
I Like It” – Enrique IglesiasThis song achieves the dubious honor of being instantly cheesy. Congratulations Enrique!
Livin’ It Up” – Ja RuleIf you are rocking out to this on your morning run, do yourself a favor and take a hard look in the mirror when you get home.
Baby” – Justin Bieber featuring LudacrisDoes Ludacris need to make a mortgage payment? I mean really!
Chattahoochee” -  Alan JacksonBefore you start judging – can YOU waterski in cowboy boots? I didn’t think so.
Opposites Attract” – Paula AbdulIn the video for this song, Paula gets freaky with an animated cat. My question is, how did this happen? Did a bunch of suits sit around and go, “Paula grinding with a cartoon kitty. I like it….GREEN LIGHT!” Terrifying.
We Didn’t Start The Fire” – Billy JoelAhhh, the Piano Man. You know how some music sound timeless, even 25 years later? This isn’t one of those songs.
Cradle of Love” – Billy IdolAnother Billy. Another no-shame song. Mental note to self: do not name son ‘William.’
Xanadu” – Olivia Newton-JohnLittle Miss Grease Lightning literally comes to life FROM A MURAL and rollerskates her way into an artist’s heart. You can’t make this stuff up.
Over & Over Again” – Nelly & Tim McGrawIf this is your cool down song post-run, we can’t be friends anymore. Final answer.

If it would have been me I would have rounded out the playlist off with a little "MMMBop" - Hanson smashed in between Ke$ha & 2pac.

WARNING - This playlist may cause embarrassing, impromptu dance party. Do not operate heavy machinery while under the influence of cheesy pop music.

You get more light from shattered glass...

My most recent journey has brought me to the snow covered mountains of Utah. At first my experience was to be light-hearted, I was coming to help a friend with her shop during the Sundance Film Festival. My trip was plagued with the news that my dear aunt had passed away. The mood took a turn towards somber, only to be brought back up by the sophisticated, yet whimsical memory of my dear sweet aunt. During her funeral service she was referenced to have said "you get more light from shattered glass". This statement for whatever reason seemed almost profound to me. This statement was just that, a statement. This is something I have been carrying with me for the last several days, along with the notion that you should get exactly what you want out of life (also a reference in my aunts loving memory).

The question now is, what do we want out of life? There is the obvious, to be happy, healthy, to love and feel loved. But what lies beyond the superficial? I agree with my aunts statement about the shattered glass. This is a scientific fact, you do indeed get more reflection from the tiny fragments of broken glass as opposed to a well put together glass. I do not mean this in a negative manor, I think that for me the statement means we are continually progressing. Life is always moving us forward (whether we like it or not).

I am not exactly sure where I am going with this post? Perhaps it is just to spread the memory of my aunt who struggled for so much of her life, her disease held her spirit hostage inside of her broken body. My aunt loved the simple things in life; being outside, seeing the mountains, ridding her horses. Her broken body took all of that from her. If the above statement that I believe to be true is just that, I wish that I would have had the opportunity to discuss some of life's wonders with my aunt before her passing. She was fragmented glass for many years of her short time on earth. I cannot help but wonder what amazing life lessons she was able to unlock with her uplifting points of view.

I hope that I am always able to find the light that comes from broken glass. I hope that I am able to sort through life with the precise distinction to get exactly what I want out of it. I hope that I always remember to breathe deeply, focus on what is important and most of all let those I love know how special they are to me.

I like imperfections. I am drawn to imperfections, whether it be in myself, others, nature...I find beauty in the clumsy chaos. There is a deep sense of gratitude when you find the perfect balance to revile the lullaby buried in the static.

Perhaps perfection is the static lullaby that reflects the broken glass?
